Biogen Idec Reflection

I really liked our field trip to the Biogen Idec. I had a great time and learned a lot. I drove there with Carwai, David, Andrew, and Taelon in Carwai’s car. We where the first ones there so we waited outside until everyone showed up. Once everone was there we stopped at the bathrooms, then on to the lab. After we entered the lab we where pared into groups of three or four. I was pared with Taelon, Trevor, and Sherif. The lab was really cool and hade a bunk of high-tecky stuff. Our director (whose name i forget) started explaining about Biogen Idec and what it is and about herself and what she did for a while. Then she talked about safety for a little bit and what he need to be safe: rubber gloves, labs coats and safety goggles (which where to be worn at all times).  Then she explained what we where gonna do.

The overall goal of the experiment was to has to see if a (fake) person with lymphoma cancer had TPMTs (a fake idem in your body) in them. Which if they did it would allow them to take cancerkiller (a fake medicine for lymphoma). To do this experiment we first had to pick a (fake) DNA sample that was in a 1.5 mL tube. Then we put everyone in my groups tubes in was called a picofuge which basically spins the tube really fast there for forcing the liquid to the bottom made it easier to suck it up with our micropipet. Micropipets are like super eyedroppers. With the micropipets we added H2O, a buffer solution, Hind 3, and Nhe 1 in our DNA. Then we put our DNA in the picofuge to mix everything together. Then we put them in the heat block so we can tell where the DNA has TPMTs. then through many other fazes and we figure out if the DNA can take cancerkiller.
